How to apply

Exchange students from partner universities:

Academic calendar:

  • First semester: October-December
  • Second semester: April-July

Please apply directly through your home university’s exchange office!

Requirements:

  • Two semesters of university completed
  • GPA of 2.8/4.0 minimum; grade average of 80/100
  • Spanish proficiency: minimum Level B1, which should be evaluated by your home university. English proficiency is recommended, but not required.
  • International health insurance
  • Approval from your home university    

Once accepted for exchange by your home university, complete your application online by filling out the online form and uploading requested documents. Complete applications must be received by email a minimum of three months before the semester begins.

Required Documents: 

  • Copy of transcripts from home university
  • Copy of high school diploma
  • Copy of the information page of your passport
  • Approval form for exchange with tentative courses signed by home university download here

Make sure to have all the required documents ready when starting the online application.

Exchange students from non-partner universities:

Students from non-partner universities are welcome to apply as tuition paying free movers. Tuition varies between academic programs. Please contact us for specific information about costs.

Complete applications must be received a minimum of three months before the semester begins.

Requirements:

  • Two semesters of university completed
  • GPA of 2.8/4.0 minimum; grade average of 80/100
  • Spanish proficiency: minimum Level B1, which should be evaluated by your home university. English proficiency is recommended, but not required.
  • International health insurance
  • Tuition payment (UIDE cannot issue an inscription certificate before tuition has been fully received)

Required Documents:

  • Copy of transcripts from home university
  • Copy of high school diploma
  • Copy of the information page of your passport

Make sure to have all the required documents ready when starting the online application.

 

Application Form 

While UIDE offers support in converting UIDE’s credits to be recognized at the student’s university, it is the student’s responsibility to inquire whether UIDE credits will be accepted at the home institution.

Health Insurance: 

All exchange students are required to have health insurance valid for the duration of their stay. Proof of insurance will be requested upon arrival.

Students can arrange for their own health insurance. As an alternative, UIDE has an agreement with BLUECARD Ecuador, which offers a 20% discount on health insurance. Please indicate in your application if you would prefer the BLUECARD option.  

 Visa application:

To stay in Ecuador for more than 90 days, students need a visa. Semester/Year exchange students need to apply for a 12-VIII Cultural Exchange visa. For details download our Visa Guide

Housing:

UIDE offers on-campus housing facilities equipped with WiFi, 24/7 security, and transportation services. For details download our housing guide.
